Copra is the dried flesh of the coconut. Copra is one of the most important coconut derivative products, because it is the raw material for making coconut oil and its derivatives.
To make good copra, you need coconut that is about 300 days old and weighs about 3-4 kg. After the copra has been extracted, what is left is a by-product that contains high protein (18-25%) but is so high in fiber that it cannot be eaten by humans. This by-product is generally given to livestock as feed.
Good copra should only have a water content of 6% – 7% so that it is not susceptible to nuisance organisms. Damage that occurs in copra is generally caused by bacterial and fungal attacks.
